"When your husband cheats, buy him condom" – Actress Seyi hunters advises wives

Nollywood actress, Seyi Hunter, has advised women not to abandon their homes because their husbands cheat, but instead, buy them condom to prevent them from bringing home sexually transmitted diseases.

Speaking with Vanguard at the weekend, Hunter said it was wrong for women to dump their homes for any reason except for domestic violence.

Recall that Tonto Dike recently left her home, accusing her husband, Dr. Olakunle Churchill of cheating on her and infecting her with different STDs.

She said women who walk out of their marriage because of a cheating spouse are the most foolish persons alive.

According to her, “It isn’t right for any lady to walk out of her marriage for any reason, except domestic violence is involved.

“I am not talking about occasional slaps here and there. If he beats you like he’ll beat a thief, my dear sister you need to run for your life because he might kill you one day or disfigure you.

“But if you leave because of cheating, then you’re the most foolish person alive and you’re not going by the Holy Bible. The Bible says man shall not live by bread alone.

“You don’t expect him to eat Egusi soup the rest of his life; he has to eat Afang, Ogbono, etc, once in a while. Let’s not forget men are polygamous in nature, it’s been there right from the days of Abraham and it cannot be changed.

“The way entertainers are ending their marriage is alarming. Is it that Ubi Franklin is a wife beater or Lilian Esoro left because he’s a chronic womanizer?

“Same goes for Tonto Dikeh and Churchill. If these ladies left their marriages for the latter, it means this generation is worse than I thought, because we’ve lost it.

“No patience, understanding or endurance to allow the man tests the waters once in a while. I hope they settle their issues, but if they won’t, let them hurry with the divorce, so that single girls can make their moves on these guys.

“Before the women eat me raw, women are not allowed to cheat. The men are to love us, care for us, support us in everything and provide for us, while we do all these and more for them.

“Every smart woman will provide her man with condoms and lubrication and pray that the Holy Spirit guides them to use it on their side chicks, so they don’t bring infection home to us.”

Petrol sells for N170 per litre in Zamfara

An acute scarcity of petroleum products has forced an increase in the pump price of petrol to N170 as against approved N145 per litre in Zamfara.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the filling stations in the state were shut while others were selling the product between N165 and N170 per litre.
The Kaduna Zonal Operations Office of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) had, last two weeks, sealed 13 filling stations in the state for selling the commodity above approved price.
A check by NAN, however, shows that only few stations in the state are selling petrol at approved price of N145 per litre.
The Leader of the Task Force, Kaduna DPR Zonal Office, Mr Aliyu Usman, told newsmen that selling the commodity above price was one of malpractices observed by the department in the state.
Usman said apart from price increase, “we also observed various malpractices such as hoarding and diversion of the petroleum products, under-dispensation and neglecting guidelines on safety of operational facilities in most of the stations.
“Based on our findings, majority of the filling stations are involved in one of two malpractices,
“We are going to continue with these inspections in Zamfara to ensure effective compliance by the marketers of the commodity.
“We will make sure that we put marketers in check because the consuming public are suffering and DPR will not continue to allow some unlawful marketers to make things difficult for the people”.
He, therefore, urged marketers in the state to avoid sharp practices in order run their businesses in a legal way.
Reacting to the allegations, the Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Gusau Depot Branch, Alhaji Sirajo Kamba said that the major cause of the increase in pump price of petrol as against the official price of N145 per liter was the increase in price from the supplying private depot.
“Most of the filling stations selling the commodity beyond government official price are getting it from private depots and they don’t sell the commodity as directed by the Federal Government.
“Even the DPR is aware of the price changes from them, as mandated by law, DPR should monitor our business activities, it is also mandated to check the excesses of the private depot.
“We got the product between N139 and N140 per liter from the private depots against N133 as directed by the government and this is the major reason for the hike.
“And you know we cannot run at a loss. We have been calling on the Federal Government to investigate and address these issues,’’ he said.
According to him, as a result of the delay in supplying the commodity from government depot, the independent marketers patronise private depots which prices are higher than the government’s.
Kamba, therefore, urged the government to review the current system of supplying the commodity, to reduce its cost to the end users.
He said that IPMAN as a law abiding association was ever ready to cooperate with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that petroleum supply improved in the country.

Passengers strom Arik for fare refund on international routes

Scores of passengers Monday besieged Arik Air headquarters to seek refund for their fares on London, New York and Johannesburg routes suspended by the airline since the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) took over on February 9, 2017.

The passengers who gathered at the reception of the airline headquarters in Lagos took a swipe at the airline for its inability to timely refund their fares to enable them join other airlines to their destinations.

The passengers were shouting at the officials at the reception, who tried to calm them.

This is just as the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) disclosed on Monday that Arik Air, under its previous management, was indebted to the tune of $78 million to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

This was disclosed by Mr. Simon Tumba, Media Consultant to Arik Air , in Lagos.

Tumba said the debt was for all aviation services provided under the platform of IATA which recently suspended the airline from its Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) and Cargo Account Settlement System (CASS).

He said: “Arik Air under the former management was owing everywhere they operated. Apart from the over N300 billion owed to AMCON, the airline also owes about N50 billion to Nigerian banks and another $78 million to IATA.

According to him, out of the almost 30 aircraft in the airline’s fleet, only about 10 was currently serviceable which necessitated the new management to reduce its routes and flight operations.

He alleged that the new management also discovered that Arik had no record of gains and losses of operations carried out in 2015.

Tumba said the management in collaboration with AMCON have appointed KPMG to carry out a forensic audit on the airline, adding that there result would be out in the next ten weeks.

“The current management is looking at the backlog of salaries owed staff because the staff needs to be motivated to get the airline running properly.

“The current management is working with government to add five aircraft to the fleet to increase its size and the airline’s routes.

“We have also resolved the issue of fuel supply which has improved Arik Air’s flight operations since the takeover,” he added.

The DPR Director, Mr Mordecai Ladan, gave the warning in a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.
According to him, DPR offices nationwide have increased surveillance to stop hoarding and diversion of products.
“The unwholesome activities of some petroleum product marketers have come to the attention of the DPR."

CURRENCY SCAM: Absence of defence counsel stalls trial

The eight billion naira CBN currency scam before Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, suffered another adjournmnt on Monday because of the absence of Mr Olayinka Bolanle, a defence counsel.

Bolanle is the counsel to Kolawole Babalola, the first accused person.
Abdulmaleek, in his ruling, adjourned the case till March 27.
She held that it was the last time she would be adjourning the case at the instance of Bolanle for no reason.
The counsel to other accused persons – Muniru Olaniran, Kayode Togun, Olukunle Sijuwade and Kehinde Fatokun0 – had always been present.
At the resumed hearing of the case, Mr Adebisi Adeniyi, counsel to the EFCC, had expressed his frustration at the slow pace of trial due to the persistent absence of Bolanle.
Adeniyi contended that it was not the first time the defence counsel would not be in the court in respect of this case.
The prosecution, however, prayed the court to continue the trial with or without the presence of Bolanle since he did not give any reason for his absence and in the interest of the other accused persons.
The accused persons have been standing trial over multiple charges bordering on conspiracy, forgery, stealing and recirculation of mutilated currencies at CBN Ibadan branch since 2015.

Why we announced rerun election result in Port Harcourt – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it decided to announce the result of the legislative rerun election in Etche and Omuma local government areas of Rivers State, because the returning officers finished the collation of the results on the night of Saturday, February 25, 2017.
The INEC resident electoral commissioner, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen yesterday night, said the returning officers also recorded the same in Form EC 8B.
Ikoiwak stated that the returning officers were concerned about the margin between the two opponents and the impact of cancelled results in areas where elections did not hold or where ballot boxes were snatched.
He said, “When he was reminded that it was a supplementary election and that a winner needed only a simple majority to be declared, the returning officer insisted to see the legal officer and be sure of the position of the law.
“It was 2am, so they decided to come to Port Harcourt since they had the security personnel to ensure safety of the people and material instead of expecting the legal officer to go to Okehi that night.”
The INEC REC said at Port Harcourt, they agreed to reconvene at 9am. It was when the returning officer was satisfied with the position of the law that he announced the result.
Ikoiwak said, “The entire process was transparent. The result announced was the same that was collated at Okehi. There was no influence from anybody or anywhere.”

Man United’s Ibrahimovic is a winner – Herrera

Ander Herrera hailed the performances of Manchester United teammates Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David De Gea after they beat Southampton 3-2 to lift the EFL Cup trophy at Wembley stadium on Sunday.

Swedish forward Ibrahimovic, who joined United as a free agent last summer following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, put his team ahead in the 19th minute with a brilliant free kick before Jesse Lingard made it 2-0.

After Southampton pulled level through Manolo Gabbiadini’s brace, Ibrahimovic headed in Herrera’s cross for the winner three minutes from time.

Herrera said of Ibrahimovic to Cadena Ser radio: “He appears at crucial times and we needed him in the 86th minute. He scored the goal that gave us the title.

“I’m asked many times about him, and I don’t know what to say anymore. He is 35, he has won things in all the countries he has played in.

“He is competitive, he drills us about winning each game in every training session. He is a winner.”

Herrera said without Ibrahimovic’s famous character he would not be the same player, adding: “You have to put up with how competitive he is.”

The Spain midfielder — who has made 32 starts in all competitions for United this season, his latest on Sunday — also praised compatriot De Gea.

“David has made two or three crucial saves,” he said. “He is no longer a surprise. For three consecutive seasons, he has been voted the best player of the team, which is not easy for a goalkeeper.

“He has been included for three straight campaigns in the ideal XI of the Premier League and I hope we can have him with us for a long time despite the rumours circulating because he gives us points.”

There has been speculation once again that De Gea may return to Spain’s La Liga with Real Madrid reportedly interested in signing him this summer.

Real came close to acquiring the 26-year-old in the summer of 2015 but the deal fell through after the paperwork was not submitted in time.

However, Herrera does not think former Atletico Madrid player De Gea will leave United any time soon.

“He has a good contract here and he is valued a lot by the fans,” he said. “He is a calm person. He is not anxious or in a hurry to make a change.

“We are winning titles [FA Community Shield, EFL Cup] and that helps. Besides, having come from Atletico, I don’t think that [playing for city rivals Real] would be easy.

“I don’t even consider the possibility that he could leave. I want him to stay for many years and not just because he is my friend, but because there are not many goalkeepers that earn you points like he does.”

Herrera believes De Gea, who is tied to United until June 2019, has a great future ahead of him.

“If he continues here, he will become a club legend as [Peter] Schmeichel and [Edwin] van der Sar,” he said. “I believe he can surpass them. I think he has that in his mind.”

Only the two fake housemates, Jon and Ese got ejected from the Big Brother Nigeria House on Sunday, in a night of drama and intrigues.

They only spent two weeks and they have been sent packing. Bisola and Bally also got bounced out of the house, temporarily  for good though, as they are being sent to ‘paradise’, ‘a place where everyone will admire to stay’.

Barcelona focused on ourselves, not our La Liga rivals – Neymar

Brazil forward Neymar insists Barcelona are only focused on themselves and not La Liga league leaders Real Madrid.

Neymar helped Barca to a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on Sunday, with Lionel Messi scoring a winner after Diego Godin cancelled out Rafina’s opener.

The win was Barca’s fourth consecutive league win, keeping them a point behind Madrid who have a game in hand.

“We do not think about other teams, we must look after ourselves,” Neymar said after the game.

“Our rivals will do their bit or they will fail.

“I am happy for the win, we knew it would be very difficult, and congratulations to the team.”

Uruguay international Luis Suarez assisted Rafinha for his goal on 64 minutes and he is adamant the Catalan outfit are still in with a chance to win the league title.

“There’s still a lot of league to go but a win here was a boost for our confidence,” Suarez said.
“The important thing was to take all three points.

“All the players were on top form. We have shown that we have the ambition to fight for the title.
“We knew that this was a great chance to turn the league around.”

Nokia relaunches iconic 3310 mobile model

Finnish brand Nokia, a former mobile star, on Sunday launched three new Android smartphones and unveiled a revamped version of its iconic 3310 model more than a decade after it was phased out.

Unlike the original, which was known for its sturdiness, the new Nokia 3310 will allow web browsing.

The new version will bring back its predecessor’s popular “Snake” game and distinctive ringtones, said Arto Nummela, the head of Finnish start-up HMD Global which will produce the phone under a licensing agreement with Nokia.

“The telephone will allow you to talk for 22 hours, ten times more than the original,” he said during a presentation in Barcelona on the eve of the start of the Mobile World Congress, the world’s biggest mobile phone show.

Launched in 2000, Nokia’s original 3310 sold nearly 120 million units worldwide before it was discontinued in 2005, making it one of the world’s best-selling mobile phones.

Analysts said resurrecting the popular model was a clever way for HMD Global to relaunch Nokia’s brand.

“HMD launched three new smartphones and an iconic mobile. It is a way to create a halo effect around the other models by reviving talk about the Nokia brand,” said Thomas Husson, a mobile analyst at Forrester.

In addition to the new 3310, HMD presented three new smartphones, the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 which will sell for different prices.

The Nokia 6 was already available in China and will now go on sale globally.
“We think (Nokia) could take 5 percent of the global smartphone market by the end of 2019. But it needs to get big quick or it won’t work,” said CCS Insight’s device specialist and chief of research, Ben Wood.

Nokia was the world’s top mobile maker between 1998 and 2011 but was overtaken by South Korean rival Samsung after failing to respond to the rapid rise of smartphones.

Its telephone brand remains widely recognised, especially in developing markets.
Now a leading telecom equipment maker, Nokia sold its entire handset business to Microsoft Corp in 2014.

Last year HMD bought Microsoft Mobile’s handset business and the right to use the Nokia brand.

Under the agreement, Nokia will receive royalty payments from HMD for sales of every Nokia branded mobile phone or tablet.

FG to sell savings bond for as low as N5,000

The Federal Government has concluded arrangements to launch its first-ever savings bonds into the domestic bond market next month, providing the retail investing public opportunity to invest in sovereign bond issue for as low as N5,000.
Market sources and parties to the savings bonds, to be known as Federal Government of Nigeria Savings Bond (FGNSCB), said the issuance of the savings bond could start next month as the government and its professional parties have concluded the pre-offer process for the bond.
The savings bond will bear all the regular features of a national bond, including the zero default rate of a sovereign issuance, fixed coupon or interest rate, privileges and exemptions from certain taxes and levies, as outlined by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) and other government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
The Debt Management Office (DMO), which oversees issuance of Federal Government bonds, will be issuing the savings bonds on behalf of national government.
A copy of the issuance documents obtained at the weekend indicated that the FGNSB is deliberately targeted at the lower income earners as part of government’s plan to encourage savings and also earn more income from their savings compared with savings accounts with banks.
The bonds will be issued with a tenor (period) of between two to three years and a minimum size (amount that can be purchased) of investment of N5,000 and maximum of N50 million.
The interest rate, which will be fixed, will be paid quarterly, enhancing the attraction of the savings bond as grassroots instrument for the general public.
The attractions of the savings bonds, according to the issuance documents, included guaranteed returns, competitive fixed interest rate, tax exemption for the interest incomes and collateral for loans.
The retail savings bonds will, in addition, encourage financial inclusion among low income households and enable the public to enjoy those benefits which accrue to high net-worth investors in the capital market.
With the collateralisation of the bond certificate, subscribers can use the bond certificate as guarantee and collaterals where such are required in transactions with the MDAs, financial institutions and private organisations.
Investors will also be able to purchase the savings bond in small units through physical offices and several online platforms. After the closure of the primary issue for the savings bond, retail investors will be able to buy and sell the bonds through the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).
Already, DMO has reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the stockbroking community on the marketing and distribution of the savings bond.
The savings bonds will be traded like quoted equities and other securities on the NSE with stockbrokers expected to make two-way quotes for the FGNSB in order to provide secondary market liquidity for the savings bond.
The stockbrokers will act as agents to the DMO for the marketing and distribution of the FGN Savings Bond to retail investors, including selling the FGN Savings Bond to existing clients using their retail investor base and attracting new ones in order to deepen the retail market for FGN securities.
