The Lagos State government has announced plans to commence a local premier league to be played among 20 local government areas in the state.
The state governor, Mr. Akinwummi Ambode stated this in a chat with reporters during a Nigeria Professional Football League local derby between MFM and Ikorodu United FC at Agege Stadium on Sunday evening.
Gov. Ambode said the modalities are in place to kick-start the league, adding that the state will go into Private Public Partnerships to galvanize infrastructure boost the league and other sports in the state.
“We have rolled the template to start our local premier league which 20 teams will participate.”He stated that the partnership will bring the best out of the state teeming players to meet the world football standard.
“I am celebrating the Lagos two teams, I am happy about the massive turnout, there should be recreation every day,” he added.In another development Ikorodu United FC coach Theodore De Jong has said that the Lagos-based Nigeria Professional Football League outfit will continue its fight to escape relegation.
The 64 year old ex-Dutch international stated this after the club’s local derby against MFM which Ikorodu lost 1-3 at Agege Stadium
