Man commits suicide after losing lifesavings in Euro 2016 final bet



A man in Russia has committed suicide after losing his life savings in a bet for the recently concluded Euro 2016 football tournament.

The 27-year-old man identified as Fidel Nikitin killed himself after losing £2,300 of his last savings on a bet that France would win the Euro 2016 final. ,

Fidel had hoped he could gamble his way out of a debt but Portugal had other plans.

The man who was a mobile phone salesman, from Izhevsk, Russia, left a message on his social media account after Portugal beat France 1-0, saying: "Thank you and forgive me."

Fidel had taken multiple loans and was unable to pay them back. He planned to use his winnings from the Euro 2016 final to offset his debt but that didn't happen.

Police reports said he walked onto the Ludzya-Izhevsk railway track and despite repeated warnings from the driver, he didn't leave the tracks until the train crushed him.

The driver said he had no time to stop after seeing the man on the track.
