A man has been arrested by the Lagos state police command for impregnating his 16-year-old daughter.
The 36-year-old man identified as Peter Kennedy was also detained with his wife, who is a step-mother to the victim.
His wife on her arrest told the police her husband said he did it because he wanted to test his manhood.
Peter who has since been detained at the Anthony Division of the Lagos state police command, has allegedly been sleeping with his daughter since 2013 at their resident in Mende, Maryland axis of the Lagos state.
The issue became public after he was reported to the police by a neighbor after Peter allegedly had carnal knowledge of his daughter again on Friday, July 8.
The unidentified victim was taken to the Mirabel centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja, for test, where it was revealed she has been raped.
The case which has been transferred to Gender Desk of the Commissioner of Police’s office, for further investigation, has drawn the attention of several NGOs.
The Co-ordinator of the Domestic Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, disclosed the case was reported to the team on Tuesday, forcing government to attach social workers from Ministry of Youth and Social Development to follow up on the case.
Vivour-Adeniyi further revealed the parties involved - the victim, her father, her step-mother and the neighbour who reported the case, were invited.
She said:
“After the parties involved had written statements, the victim’s step-mother, on discovering the gravity of the offence, confessed her involvement in the abortion. She said that she knew about it, but only warned her husband not to be caught doing it again.”She further confirmed that the step-mother of the victim revealed her husband said he was trying to test his ability to have sex. The victim is currently in protective custody.
