Trolls throw jabs at Tiwa Savage over support for #BlackLivesMatter, she responds

Instagram trolls have taken to the comment section of Nigerian pop star, Tiwa Savage's page to vent over her support for the ongoing global campaign #BlackLivesMatter.

Tiwa Savage who has been in South Africa, shared a photo with the inscription, "I can't keep calm, I have a black son" and this didn't sit well with her Nigerian followers who felt she was selective in her activism.

Some of her fans unleashed their frustrations, calling her out for ignoring issues in Nigeria and identifying with issues in America.

A user by the name sinzbychisom wrote:
I totally totally support African Americans, we are all from the Same ancestors even tho we live in different continents... my issue is why is she a selective activists? 'Bring back our Girls' and 'Black lives matter' both had/have international recognitions.! If u want to truly speak up on injustice, why don't she start from her own soil... Nigeria! We have had several political & religious unrest since after the bring back our girls & I didn't see the post on Tiwa's page. I LOVE everything Melanin!!! All love babe
In her defence, she shared to say ‘I don’t need to justify my support for #BlackLivesMatter‘.

Tiwa Savage while defending herself shared a photo collage of her past activism and then said she doesn't have to justify her support for the Global campaign, further reminding fans she has in the past lent her voice to issues that have plagued Nigeria.

She wrote:
‘Let us not let the devil distract us by letting us fight amongst ourselves and lose focus on the many tragedies happening around the whole. Yes you as an individual might not be able to fight for every cause but even the little you do will help’.
‘I don’t need to justify my support for #blacklivesmatter and it’s sad that some people should even question my support because I’m sure these same people were happy when the rest of the world supported us with our #bringbackourgirls movement, but you don’t want us to show support because it is not right on our doorstep. This is exactly what the enemy wants and he “the devil” is a liar’.
‘We will keep supporting each other and not get distracted and just to clarify what happens at home means so much to me as a Nigerian. I didn’t just hashtag I joined several walks in protest, used my voice as an artist and wrote ‘olorun mi’ as a tribute to lives lost on the Dana crash and will continue to do many more as it is my duty as a Nigerian, a citizen of this world and a child of the Most High’.
We hope the trolls will let her be now.
